My Powerdyne Experience

Thinking of buying a powerdyne supercharger, think again. I purchased a brand new BD11a head unit from Powerdyne in late september 1999. It's first failure came about 22 miles in and I was told that the internal belt had failed and that this is what caused it to stop making boost. I sent the unit out wich cost me 40 bucks, and then I also paid for return shipping so I could get it back faster than the shipping they normally use. I get the head unit back and install it at work on Friday November 12th. On Saturday, the next day, I decided to mount the mass air meter in the fender and in order to do this I had to remove the intake tube. When I did this I noticed that the inpeller nut had broken off and continued to be slammed into the back of the impeller. The impeller was chewed right up and can be seen in these pictures.

I then posted on the websites corral.net, mustangworks, stangnet, and nmra racing to see if this has happened before. Not only has it happend before, but it has happend to a lot of people. Most of them suggested I demand a full refund and I felt that is what I should do.

I emailed Powerdyne over the weekend and informed them of what had happend over the weekend. I also informed them of the research I had done and that I wanted a refund. Come Monday morning when I called them they imediately new who I was. After arguing with him for 20 minutes and informing him of my feelings towards his company and his product we came to an agreement that I would give the blower one more try and if it fails again than I will get a full refund. I was happy with this at first but then I got to thinking that this just isn't good enough.

I am now in the proccess of trying to get a full refund. I have gotten over 50 emails and responses about this problem and all of them were reporting bad news about Powerdyne Automotive. I got responses ranging from 6 rebuilds in 2 years, to lost head units and 3 months wait to get them back. I think that we as consumers deserve a heck of a lot more than this from a 2400.00 performance product. I have kept all the replys that have been emailed to me just incase this thing goes to court and I have to come up with some other backing.

I will keep updating this section of the site as new developments arise. I will make it known how they treat me and I hope none of you guys ever get cought up in somthing like this.

11/16/99 - I spoke with Sam at Powerdyne again today and after about a half an hour of conversing he hung up on me. On Monday he told me that he would give me a new head unit and if that failed than I would be given a refund. Well overnight I thought about it and decided to call him back and get that promise in writing. I tried to email him but he wouldn't respond. So after a couple of attempts of calling he finally spoke with me. I basically asked him everything I could think of and once he ran out of answers he informed me that "there is no chance you are getting a refund". This just one day after he said that I would get one if the new unit failed. He said some things to me on the phone that made me really wonder how this company is still in business. He stated that they were a million dollar company and that the money isn't a problem, but they don't give refunds. He then went on to say that the second failure wasn't their fault. That the heat treated shaft had failed and they don't make them. I responded with "that is your fault because you chose to use a companies shaft that isn't up to par." He didn't have much to say after that. He told me that the owner of the company, Jim Wheeler, is the only one that can give a refund. I asked to speak to the owner and he said I couldn't. He said "You don't call to the whitehouse and ask to speak to Bill Clinton do you?" What is this line. What a joke. He then said that the owner is not involved with the business and that he pays guys like him to run it. I responded "than if you run it you can give me a refund". He respoded "I can't, only the owner can". But he just got done saying the owner dosn't get involved in the business. He basically contradicted everything he said and eventually got so frustrated that he hung up on me.

I am asking everyone to e mail : powerdyne@powerdyne.com

and put in the subject box, "Ian Muller deserves a refund", maybe even put in your two cents about the product. Send a copy of the letter to me. I would love to see what you guys are sending.

I will keep you guys posted and thanks for the support.
